me to a T

2013, April

with my new job i get to work with exciting brands such as marvel, dc comics, hello kitty and marilyn monroe. i also get to work with the iconic audrey hepburn brand and i stumbled on this quote by the woman herself:

“i believe in manicures; i believe in overdressing; i believe in primping at leisure; and wearing lipstick; i believe in pink; i believe that laughing is the best calorie burner; i believe in kissing, kissing a lot; i believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong; i believe happy girls are the prettiest girls; i believe that tomorrow is another day; i believe in miracles.”

this is my down to a T and to add to that…i am a girly girl and a tomboy on occasion. i cry. my heart has been broken. i love to laugh until my sides hurt and then some. i believe in seeing the good in people. i believe in trying. i believe in being you. i believe in the power of faith. i make mistakes. i learn from them and sometimes i don’t. i believe if you want to, anyone can change.

tonight i got to indulge in my girly girl and experience a “hot mess” party (which was quote comedic as I’ve been packing all day and i walked in saying i looked like a hot mess). make-up and girl time, couldn’t ask for more on a monday night.

talk about thinking outside of the box. literally.

i wanted to share with you my friend, dan conway. he’s taken job hunting to another level by creating a video ‘cover letter’ as I like to call it. absolutely brilliant i think. and if i had my own company i would hire him out of sheer talent, guts and outside-box thinkingness (not a word but just roll with it). i’ve even posted it up onto my linkedin profile.

life lately.

2013, April

the weeks continue to be non-stop so i definitely didn’t want to end this week without another update on my life!

i finally found an apartment! i’m moving from taylorsville to holladay in utah. i didn’t realize just how much stuff a person can accumulate in just one year. when i moved from the uk to the us i had two suitcases. i now have what feels like several hundred suitcases worth of stuff. and i’ve just added to it by having to buy a bed and other bedroom furniture.

although i am actually quite excited about the furniture! the bedframe i found on ksl and the furniture i bought from a local d.i. thrift store. so rather than having to spend over nearly $600 on brand new furniture in total so far i have spent only $100. okay i actually had to buy a new mattress for $200 but still, that’s half of what i thought i had to spend! and i get to have a fun diy project out of it. so watch this blog space with a post about it!

so from my last post you would have caught a picture (or 3) of my graduation! i’m actually not quite done with school as i don’t graduate until august, but because of that (and that there is only one ceremony a year), i ‘walked’! about 3 weeks prior, i found out my mum and brother were flying in from england and my cousin with his wife and kids were coming in from houston, texas! it also happen to be finals week so it was absolutely fantastic but crazy busy!

my mum was hilarious…as soon as she arrived at the airport she yelled “i’m in utah!!”. true story. we ate out everyday. i alone probably ate enough to feed a small village. or perhaps a large one. what was interesting, of all the places i took them to eat (including café rio, tucanos – brazalian grill, cheesecake factory etc.), their favorite was the taco stand downtown salt lake! which is absolutely life changing. just saying.

it was also my roommate’s birthday so with her family we pulled together a surprise birthday party for her and a joint grad party for me. it was so much fun!

having my family in town reminded me of how much i miss home. but for every adventure we take in life there are often sacrifices. and this is mine. but i cannot complain. i am having some amazing experiences.

i’m not going to lie, i do miss london, it’s vintage shops, cobbled streets, pubs and cafe’s. so with that in mind, i am determined to find the ‘london’ in salt lake city. the random little pastry shops, the festivals (there’s a greek one in september i think) and vintage shops. i am a city girl!

catch up

eeek apologies again for the lack of posts. after a crazy and fun week with finals, family here and graduation i roller coasted into starting a new job and trying to find a new apartment! so please forgive me?

let’s see, there’s so much to tell you! but i won’t put it all into one post. here are a few photos from the past few weeks. they consist of miss africa utah pageant show, graduation and just fun times!

pictures can often express what you can’t say in words?

happy sunday!

2013, April

it’s been over a week since i last blogged and i apologize for that! with it being finals week and i have a few other projects going on, it’s been non-stop. i’m about to finish an exam right now (it’s 1am and it’s a sales exam…wish me luck) i just thought to write up a quick little blog post.

it’s been almost 18months now since i moved to utah. it’s been a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences, especially with missing dear friends and family back in the uk. if only that darn atlantic ocean wasn’t in the way it wouldn’t be so difficult!

anyway my mum and brother decided to come stay in utah for 10 days. it has been absolutely wonderful having them here. this quote describes it the best:

“you can kiss your family and friends good-bye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world but a world lives in you.”
frederick buechner

couldn’t have said it better myself.

2013, April

last year i spent easter with the owen family in las vegas. as a family tradition they hide easter baskets for the kids and then have a little hunt. they hid each of our baskets in the hotel room…and my crazy self took forever to find mine. i have been laughed at ever since. rightly so seeing as i literally looked at them but still didn’t find them.

anyway this year we not only stayed in salt lake but finding my easter basket was perhaps 10 times easier (i may or may not have got some help).

what does easter mean to you? family. friends. reflection. new beginnings. remembrance. chocolate?

some of you might think of Him as a great philosopher. some of you might think of Him as a great teacher or a prophet even.

to me He is my brother and the Son of God. He  died for me. for my weaknesses, my sins, my mistakes, my sorrow and my pain. easter is remembering that, and being grateful for what i have. among all the chocolate, laughter, friendship and love; deep down i remember that most of all. and especially that He lives.

perhaps my most favorite depiction of Jesus Christ by liz lemon swindle.

this version i’m using can be found here.
