thank you pinterest.
thank you pinterest.
out of the night that covers me,
black as the pit from pole to pole,
i thank whatever gods may be
for my unconquerable soul.
in the fell clutch of circumstance
i have not winced nor cried aloud,
under the bludgeoning of chance
my head is bloody, but unbowed.
beyond this place of wrath and tears
looms but the horror of the shade,
and yet the menace of the years
finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
it matters not how strait the gate,
how charged with punishments the scroll,
i am the master of my fate:
i am the captain of my soul.

april 2012. i decided i wanted to go natural. what that means in lames terms is that i wanted to stop using chemical products on my hair (to straighten) and to let my natural curls grow through.
because let’s face it, natural curly hair is gawgus. these pictures are from my pinterest hair and beauty board. i’m kinda obsessed.
it’s also called transitioning. it might take a while since i have been chemically straightening my hair since i was 12. i’m now 27 (oops). but i’ll get there. and regardless of the style of my curls, i will be flaunting them. for now i shall rest with protective styling.
one day. one day.
it’s been one of those weeks. actually make that two weeks of crazy, stressful, sometimes lonely, ‘i want to shut the world out’ weeks. good things have happened but also not-so-good things.
this is where chocolate comes in. and english chocolate is…well, amazeballs. like a warm fuzzy blanket on a rainy night, or the feeling you get when your crush likes you back. true story.
this. this is what i’ll be devouring tonight. momentarily all my worries are simply melted away with the taste of smooth milk chocolate.
i once got called the “chocolate lady”. by an adorable 6-year-old. technically i am chocolate-colored. i loved it.
contouring. at first i thought, no. then i thought i’d give it a try. after looking rather ill i thought no. then i found this gem popped up in my email from fellow blogger maskcara…
image from http://www.maskcara.com
a simple and easy way to contour your nose for us who are slightly challenged in the ‘professional look’ makeup department. i bought my contouring kit from sleek which specializes in makeup for darker skin tones. but it works the same.

if you have any makeup tips you would like to share email me at firstname.lastname@example.org — i would love to share them on this blog!
the tree that never had to fight,
for sun and sky and air and light,
but stood out on the open plain,
and always got it’s share of rain,
never became a forest king,
but lives and dies a scrawny thing.
the man who never had to toil,
to gain and farm his patch of soil,
who never had to win his share,
of sun and sky and light and air,
never became a manly man,
but lived and died as he began.
good timber does not grow in ease,
the stronger the wind, the stronger trees
the farther sky, the greater the length
the more the storm, the more the strength,
by sun and cold, by rain and snow,
in tree and men good timbers grow.
where thickest lies the forest growth
we find the patriarchs of both.
and they hold counsel with the stars
whose broken branches show the scars
this is the common law of life.
because sometimes you wonder whether it’s worth the fight.
it’s not just the sunshine, it’s the warmth and what you get to wear. surely that adds to the joy of spring? i stumbled on lauren conrad’s spring collection and almost peed my knickers with excitement (yep i just said that, possibly tmi, possibly not).
this is a chic, subtly printed, brightly colored, fabulous collection. here are just a few of my favorite picks:
check the rest out here.
so dearest spring, please arrive already.
last night i found out my mum and brother will be coming to utah in 3 weeks. excitement doesn’t even cover it. mum has never been to utah so i’m excited to share some of the places i love with her!
it’s not been that long as i just saw them over christmas. but it made me happy. oh the little things.
which reminds me. my track of the day is “little things” by one direction. i’m not a die hard fan, but i love harry’s voice and the words. oh the words. it’s written by ed sheeran. lyrical genius that boy.
yesterday (march 10th) was mother’s day in england. although i live stateside and there aren’t any cards available until may, i still skyped and whatsapped her a message i would have otherwise written in a card. (if you don’t know what whatsapp is click on the link and check it out. it is genius. especially if you live far away from friends and family. and if you have a smart phone).
my dad and my brother managed to prepare a lovely sunday lunch for her. i was proud. they usually forget.
here she is. the woman who holds my hand when i’m scared. who hugs me when i have a bad day and who loves me regardless of my weaknesses and short comings. and despite the almost 5000 mile distance between us, she still does it.
mummy dearest you are my hero.
the bride and her bridesmaids.
bridesmaid duties can be tiring!
p.s. this is actually at blue lemon downtown salt lake city. their butternut squash soup is to die for.
me with my sister from another mister and roommate
we had a dinner party on thursday night and i came across this red velvet poke cake (yes that’s what it’s actually called) on pinterest from the country cook.
